| HOBOKEN, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder Alex Richards (Beaverton, Ore./Century) scored four goals to lead 11th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology to a 17-4 win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday night in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game at DeBaun Field. Stevens (6-2, 1-0 Knickerbocker), ranked 11th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III coaches poll, scored the first six goals of the game en route to an 11-1 halftime advantage. Senior attack Matt McCarthy scored all four goals for Kings Point (2-5, 1-1 Knickerbocker). Junior midfielder Jay Wells (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union), who had two goals and one assist, scored on Stevens’ opening possession with 14:13 left in the first quarter. Richards and sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored two goals apiece in the first quarter. Bielicky, who finished with three goals, scored with 3:13 left to extend the Stevens lead to 6-0. Kings Point ended its scoring drought on McCarthy’s goal with 2:21 remaining. Sophomore attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School) scored two of his three goals in the second quarter as the Ducks extended their lead to 11-1. Stevens maintained a 51-20 advantage in shots and a 38-24 advantage in ground balls. Wells, who won 16 or 21 faceoffs, picked up a game-high 10 ground balls. Sophomore goalie Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) stopped eight shots for Stevens. Sophomore John Pagano made 11 saves for Kings Point. Stevens is back in action on Saturday, April 9, when it travels to Montclair State for a 1 p.m. Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game. |
