|SELINSGROVE, PA - Patrick Stringer scored to break a 7-7 tie with just over three minutes
remaining to lift DeSales to a 9-7 comeback win over Susquehanna in Middle Atlantic Conference
men?s lacrosse action Tuesday.
The Crusaders held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter on the strength of goals by junior Andy Nadler (Westport, CT/Staples H.S.) and freshmen Justin Mason (Wilmington, DE/Tatnall School) and Dan St. Ours (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy), but DeSales responded with three of the next four goals to cut the lead to 4-3.
Sophomore Scott Hodgson (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo H.S.) found the net with only 44 seconds remaining in the second quarter to give Susquehanna (2-3, 0-2 MAC) a 5-3 cushion at the half. The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-2 MAC) then scored the next four goals to grab a 7-5 lead with less than two minutes left in the third quarter, but Nadler fired home a shot with only four seconds remaining in the quarter to trim the deficit to one.
With 5:44 remaining in the fourth, Nadler tied the game at 7-7 with his third goal of the contest. DeSales notched two unassisted goals to take the victory, adding the final tally with 2:20 left. Nadler scooped nine ground balls for the Crusader, who finished with 47 on the day. The Crusaders were 1-for-5 on extra-man opportunities and failed on only three of 16 clearing attempts, while the Bulldogs also converted one extra-man situation and were unsuccessful on eight of 24 clears. Susquehanna held the advantage in face-offs, winning 12 of 20. Mason tallied three assists to lead Susquehanna with four points, while Stringer finished with two goals and three helpers for a game-high five points.
In net for the Crusaders, Chad Denlinger (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor H.S.) stopped 15 shots, while Joe Devine recorded four saves for the Bulldogs.
