| SELINSGROVE, PA – Edward Boate scored the tiebreaking goal with 7:48 remaining in the fourth quarter to help The University of Scranton to an 8-7 victory over Susquehanna University in Middle Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action at a chilly Sassafras Field on Thursday afternoon. Nick Youngstrom scored four goals and dished out three assists for the Royals (4-5 overall, 2-3 MAC), who trailed 6-4 entering the fourth quarter but outscored the Crusaders (1-7 overall, 1-4 MAC) by a 4-1 margin over the final 15 minutes. Junior Tim Storck (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) scored four goals for the Crusaders while sophomore Greg Norris (St. Catharines, ON/Dennis Morris) added two goals and two assists and junior Ryan Walters (Easton, PA/Easton) finished with a goal and two assists. Susquehanna led 3-1 after one quarter thanks to two goals by Storck, but the Royals evened the score at 4-4 at halftime behind a pair of second-quarter goals from Youngstrom. Goals by Walters and Storck in the final 2:30 of the third quarter gave the Crusaders a 6-4 lead, but Phil Lindner and Youngstrom scored less than two minutes apart to tie the game at 6-6 with 10:48 to play. Dan Stallone tallied a man-up goal with 9:44 remaining to push the Royals ahead 7-6, but Storck answered with a man-up goal with 8:30 left to force the final tie at 7-7. Boate then scored a man-up goal off an assist by Youngstrom with 7:48 left to give the Royals the lead for good, and the Crusaders were unable to get a shot in the final four minutes. Scranton finished with a 46-18 advantage in shots and a 43-37 edge in ground balls in the contest. Norris and sophomore Collin Fadrowski (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) shared the team lead with five ground balls for the Crusaders, while Stallone paced the Royals with six ground balls. Freshman A.J. Schaufler (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) made 20 saves in goal for the Crusaders while Tom Davis finished with six stops for the Royals. |
