HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team earned the second-seed in the NESCAC Tournament
with a 10-8 victory over Trinity College on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears will host rival Bates in the first-round
on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Junior attackman Kyle Courtiss scored two goals and two assists to lead the Polar Bears on Saturday. Leading 4-2 after
one period, Bowdoin never looked back as Simon McKay led the team with three goals on the day. P.J. Prest made 12
saves in the victory.
The Polar Bears played Bates earlier this season and fell in a stunning 10-7 decision on April 16. Defending conference
and national champion Middlebury, which posted an 8-1 record in conference play, earned the top seed for the
tournament. The three first-round winners will join Middlebury in the conference tournament semifinals. The Panthers
will host the semifinals on Saturday, May 4 and will host the championship game on Sunday, May 5.
The top seven teams in regular season conference play qualify for the NESCAC Championship tournament. The
top-seeded team earns a first-round bye and hosts the semifinal and final rounds, while the other six teams compete in
first-round action with the next three top teams hosting first round contests. The top seed faces the lowest remaining
seed in one semifinal and the other two first round winners face off in the other semifinal. Tomorrow's other matchups
are: No. 6 Williams (4-5, 6-7) at No. 3 Colby (6-3, 9-3), 1:00 p.m.; No. 5 Tufts (5-4, 8-5) at No. 4 Amherst (5-4,
8-6), 2:00 p.m. |
