Tufts vs. Bowdoin

The Game Story:
MEDFORD, Mass. - Tufts University built a six-goal lead in the fourth quarter and then withstood a furious rally by Bowdoin College to post a 12-11 victory in NESCAC men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Zimman Field. The game, matching the #9 Polar Bears (6-1, 2-1 NESCAC) against the #19 Jumbos (6-1, 2-0 NESCAC), went down to the closing seconds before Tufts recorded its fourth consecutive win over Bowdoin.

Visiting Bowdoin led 4-3 after one quarter, but the Tufts defense held the Bears to only one goal apiece in the second and third quarters and the Jumbos took a 9-6 advantage into the fourth. The hosts ran off three straight goals early in the fourth quarter to lead 12-6 on a tally by junior Bryan Griffin with 7:46 to play in regulation. Sophomore Mike O'Brien scored four times for the Jumbos, Griffin had three goals and two assists, and junior Devin Clarke added two goals and two assists.

The Polar Bears surged to score five straight goals, including four in the final 3:12. Senior captain Joe Andrasko scored with 10 seconds left to pull the Polar Bears within 12-11. They then won the ensuing face off, but Tufts was able to keep them away from the goal and post the victory.

Junior Phil Stern scored twice in the fourth quarter to lead the Bowdoin attack along with sophomore Carl Klimpt, who also scored twice. Sophomore Connor Fitzgerald had a goal and three assists. Junior Luke Chicco improved to 6-1 in the Tufts goal with 16 saves, including nine in the second half. Senior Grant White had 10 saves in the Bowdoin goal.
