Tufts vs. Connecticut College

The Game Story:
MEDFORD -- Eight different Camels scored goals as the Connecticut College men's lacrosse team won 9-5 at #16 Tufts University in a NESCAC game on Bello Field Wednesday afternoon. Junior Jesse Stevenson (Marshfield, MA) and freshman Conor Malangone (Lake Grove, NY) led the visitors with three points each.

The Camels had a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period and went up 5-0 on a goal by Stevenson at 13:46 of the second quarter. The Jumbos got themselves into the game by scoring four of the next five goals, two each by juniors Clem McNally (Far Hills, NJ) and Chase Bibby (Marblehead, MA). That cut the margin to 6-4 at halftime.

Connecticut College won the third quarter, 3-0, to lead 9-4. Malangone scored his second goal of the game during the period and Stevenson set up two goals. Meanwhile, sophomore Mark Moran (Greenwich, CT) kept the Jumbos off the scoreboard in the third with three of his 15 saves overall. He made five more in the fourth, when Tufts added a goal by freshman D.J. Hessler (Monkton, MD) with 4:42 remaining.

The loss is the third straight for Tufts (3-3, 1-2 NESCAC), which held a 34-21 advantage in shots for the game. The Camels (4-2, 2-2 NESCAC) took a slim 28-26 margin in ground balls and won 10 of 18 face-offs. The Jumbos haven't loss three in a row since April 2005. Connecticut College has now won three straight.

Sophomore Phips Smith (Far Hills, NJ) had a goal with an assist for Conn. The Camels were led by six ground balls from freshman defender Wes Stephanian (Belmont, MA), who also scored a goal. Senior Peter Musser (Lafayette, CA) won seven face-offs.

Hessler finished with a goal and an assist for Tufts. Sophomore Mike Droesch (Setauket, NY) had four ground balls and won six draws. Matt Harrigan (Darnestown, MD) made four saves in goal.
