| SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore attack Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/Conard) scored five goals and junior Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) and Pete Gross (Larchmont/Salisbury) had seven points each to lead Union to a 14-12 men's lacrosse victory in Liberty League play at Frank Bailey Field Wednesday. The Dutchmen improved to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the Liberty League. Hamilton fell to 10-4 overall and 2-4 in the conference. With the defeat, Hamilton was eliminated from qualification for the upcoming conference tournament and St. Lawrence clinched a spot in the playoffs. Mike Sparico (Riverside, CT/Greenwich) scored the game-winner with 2:35 left in the fourth, and had four goals with an assist. Gross had four assists with his seven goals on the day. Myerow had three assists with a goal and Andy West (Salem, NH/Derryfield) added a goal and an assist for the Dutchmen. Four players scored two goals each for Hamilton, George Earle (Rosemont, PA/The Haverford School), Jack Newton (Darien, CT/Darien High School), Mike Daley (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Jesse Walker (Littleton, CO/Littleton). Trailing 10-8 entering the fourth period, Union got goals by Condon at 13:53 and 9:55 to tie the contest. Sparico gave the Dutchmen the 11-10 lead at 8:47 and West made it a two goal lead with 7:15 left. But Earle tallied with 6:26 to play in regulation and Newton gave the Continentals the tie at 12-12 with 5:13 remaining. But after Sparico's score, Union added insurance on a Condon goal with 2:14 to play in the fourth. Union goaltender Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 20 saves in the nets, as Hamilton had a 46-32 shot advantage for the game. Ethan Shoemaker (Kansas City, MO/Pembroke Hill) made nine saves for the Continentals. Hamilton won 14 of the 26 faceoffs and while Union had a 40-28 advantage in ground balls. The Dutchmen wrap up the season Saturday night at 7 p.m. at home against Rensselaer. |
