Union vs. Ithaca

The Game Story:
SCHENECTADY, NY Ė Behind the two-headed attack of junior Brendan Kinnane and sophomore Ted McKenna the Union College menís lacrosse team dominated Ithaca, 11-2, on Wednesday. Kinnane and McKenna combined for six goals with three apiece. Kinnane led all scorers with seven points.

The Dutchmen (2-1) received strong goaltending by sophomore Sean Aaron, who made 12 saves, including a total of eight in the second and third quarters.

Despite losing the groundball battle, 52-39, the Dutchmen owned the shot total, 42-32. Union excelled with the man advantage, netting five goals on 10 man-up opportunities.

Union wasted no time taking control of the game, jumping out to a 6-0 advantage early in the second quarter. Kinnane got the scoring started at 10:34 and added a second goal at 4:59 after freshman and Ithaca, NY native Robert Young posted his third goal of the season at 6:54 of the first.

McKenna took over with back-to-back goals at 12:03 and 8:07. After a Bomber tally with less than seven minutes remaining, Union closed out the half with a pair of goals. The first came off the stick of Young, while the second was scored by senior Scott Garibaldi with Kinnane earning his second assist of the day.

In the second half, Ithaca was only able to sneak one past Aaron at 5:59 of the third. The Garnet and White controlled the action the rest of the way. Garibaldi added his second goal at 11:46 of the third and Kinnane and McKenna each netted an additional goal in the fourth.

Senior Christopher Jacobson also registered a fourth quarter goal at 11:19. It was his first marker of the season.

The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Mar. 13 with a 1 p.m. outing at Oneonta.
