| SCHENECTADY, NY – Senior attack Jeff Salisbury (Oswego, NY/Oswego) scored three goals and assisted on three others to lead Oswego State to a 12-8 men’s lacrosse triumph over Union at Bailey Field Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers are 1-0 after winning their season opener, while the Dutchmen fall to 0-2. Steve Tronovitch (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Falls) and Chris Mitchell (Oswego, NY/Oswego) tallied three goals each in the victory, as the Lakers outscored the Dutchmen 3-0 in the third period to open up a 6-4 halftime lead. With Union leading 4-3 after a goal by Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/Conard) at 6:31 of the second, Oswego scored the next eight goals of the game for an 11-4 lead, with all three of Tronovitch’s goals coming during that run. John Schumacher (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas), Rob Tramontozzi (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and Adam Geier (Webster, NY/Webster-Thomas) each scored for Oswego. Condon scored three goals and assisted on two more for Union, while five different Dutchmen scored a goal each, Bryan Benjy (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Salisbury), Ben Beaty (Cambridge, MA/Buckingham-Browne), Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury), Jonathon Miller (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) and Marc Magee (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand). Union goaltender Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 16 saves while Oswego’s Matt Pfister (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) stopped 14. Oswego won 13 of 24 faceoffs and had a 43-38 ground ball advantage. Union outshot the Lakers, 38-37. The Dutchmen return home to Bailey Field Saturday at 1 p.m. to host RIT, while Oswego plays Hamilton Saturday in Darien, CT. |
