The Game Story:
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore attack Tom Simmons (Salisbury, CT/Salisbury) dished out five assists and also scored a goal to lead Union to a 9-5 Liberty League men's lacrosse triumph over Skidmore at Bailey Field Saturday.

The Dutchmen are now 2-6 on the season and even at 1-1 in the Liberty League, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Union got a balanced attack in their first home game since March 11, as the hosts featured two goals each from Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/Conard), Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury), and Jonathon Miller (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth). Other goal scorers for the Dutchmen were Bryan Bendjy (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Salisbury), Matthew Douglas (New York, NY/The Hotchkiss School) and Simmons.

Skidmore was paced by Nick Coppola (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge), who scored two goals, while Micah Hawes-Sivitz (Conway, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon), Tom Spinella (New Hartford, NY/Loomis Chaffee) and Chuck McNeil (Spencer, MA/Williston Northampton) tallied one goal each.

In the nets, Union junior Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) stopped 18 Skidmore shots, while James deGorter (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) made two saves for the Thoroughbreds.

The teams were tied at 1-1 when Miller scored at 10:27 of the first, the first of four straight Union goals. The Dutchmen led 4-1 after the first and 5-1 when McNeil tallied at 9:38. After Douglas scored his first career goal at 4:15 for Union, the Dutchmen had a 6-2 lead by halftime.

Skidmore pulled to 6-4 on goals by Coppola at 9:40 and Spinella at 5:57, his 26th of the season. But Union pulled away with the next three goals, including Condon's second of the game and 11th of the season, and led 9-4 with 5:34 left.

Skidmore outshot the Dutchmen, 36-18, and Union won 11 of 18 faceoffs on the day.

Union will host Utica Monday at Bailey Field at 4 p.m., a makeup of a game originally scheduled on March 1.
