Union vs. Western New England

The Game Story:
Sophomore attack Bryan Coffrin scored seven goals and added an assist to lead Western New England to a 17-3 triumph over Union in the menís lacrosse season opener for both teams Saturday at Frank Bailey Field.


The Golden Bears outshot the Dutchmen, 61-15 for the contest, as Union starting goaltender Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 20 saves in just under 50 minutes of work. Christopher Keinath (Wilbrahma, MA/Minnechaug Regional) stopped two shots in the freshmanís debut.

Union had three different goal scorers in the contest, with Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/Conard), Ben Beaty (Cambridge, MA/Buckingham-Browne) and Kyle Tilley (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Weinham) each scored for the Dutchmen. Dan Myerow (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) assisted on two goals for Union.

Adam Cherry scored four goals and assisted on two others for the Golden Bears, and Joe Cassani scored three goals and added an assist for WNEC. Starting goaltender Chris Body stopped four for the Golden Bears in over 58 minutes, while Rob Titus made one save in the final minutes.

Western New England won 12 of 21 faceoffs, and converted 18 of 24 clear attempts, while Union was 22 for 32 on clears. The guests had a 4-2 lead after the first period and led 7-2 at halftime. They outscored the Dutchmen, 7-0 in the third period.

Union returns to action Wednesday at home at 4 p.m. to host Oswego.
