|SCHENECTADY, NY – Fourteen different student-athletes scored to lead the Union College men's lacrosse team (8-3) to a 19-1 victory against SUNY Cobleskill (4-7) at Frank Bailey Field.|
Sophomore attack Robert Young and freshman midfielder Greg Mooney each scored three goals, and senior attack Brendan Kinnane, freshman attack Dylan Tripodi (goal, three assists) and sophomore Nolan Connors each had three assists to pace the Dutchmen.
Union outshot SUNY Cobleskill 65-12 for the game, and held a 48-29 groundball advantage. SUNY Cobleskill's Tom Knezick made 13 saves in the contest 48:17 and was replaced by Scott Anthony (two saves). Union's Sean Aaron, Devyn Jefferies and Stephen Melia combined to stop six shots
The teams remained scoreless for most of the first quarter as Union peppered Cobleskill goaltender Tom Knezick with shots in the early going. With 35 seconds remaining in the opening quarter, junior attack Ted McKenna scored to give Union the lead, starting a run of 15 unanswered goals for the home team.
The Dutchmen took control of the contest in the second quarter, as six different student-athletes scored to give Union a 7-0 lead heading into the half. Freshman attack Rob Santangelo scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season during the run.
Union continued the impressive offensive display with eight goals in the third quarter. Mooney scored all three of his goals during the frame, his second, third, and fourth career goals.
SUNY Cobleskill's Jeff Fichtner scored to get the Tigers on the scoreboard at 13:27 of the fourth quarter. The Dutchmen ended the game on a four goal run, including freshman Henry Farrell's first career goal with 6:32 remaining in the contest.
The Dutchmen will continue Liberty League play with a game at Clarkson on Saturday at 1:00 pm
