The Game Story:
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior midfielder Matt Vozzolo (Somers, Conn.) scored three of New England College's six third-period goals as the Pilgrims opened The Commonwealth Coast Conference play with an 11-9 win over the University of New England Friday afternoon.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Pilgrims, who improved to 2-3 overall. UNE saw its four-game win streak halted and is 4-2.

Holding on to a slim 5-4 lead at halftime, the Pilgrims exploded for six scores in the pivotal third period. In addition to Vozzolo's three goals, sophomore Matt Carey (Medford, N.Y.) added a pair and junior Clint McDonough (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) had one.

The Nor'easters battled back in the final period -- outscoring NEC 4-0 -- but would get no closer than two goals.

Carey and Vozzolo each finished with three goals to pace the Pilgrims. McDonough contributed three points with a pair of scores and one assist. Sophomore Nick Acquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots to earn the win in goal.
