The Game Story:
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior attacker Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) registered six points on four goals and two assists to help lead Roger Williams University to a 9-3 victory over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.

The win is the first of the season for the Hawks (1-3), while the Nor'easters fall to 2-4 overall.

Smith got the visitors on the board early, finding the back of the cage seven seconds into the match off a feed from classmate Austin Fehringer (Rockville Centre, N.Y.). For the game, Fehringer won 14 of 16 face-offs for RWU.

Senior Jim Turenne (Bristol, R.I.) made it 2-0 after one period with the first of his two goals on the day. Sophomore Drew Beck (South Salem, N.Y.) assisted on the play -- part of his one-goal, two-assist outing.

The Hawks recorded two more goals in the second quarter -- the last coming with nine seconds left -- to take a 4-0 cushion into halftime.

UNE got it to 4-1 at 9:18 of the third, on an unassisted score by senior Luke DiFiore (Gloucester, Mass.), but Roger Williams tallied the next three to go up by six (7-1) in the latter stages of the frame.

RWU, which hosts Curry College on Wednesday (4 p.m.), received 14 saves from senior goalie Tyler Roebuck (Pine Bush, N.Y.).

For UNE, senior Michael Woods (Kittery Point, Maine) and sophomore Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) had the other two goals. Junior Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) made 11 stops for the Nor'easters, who visit Gordon College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
