Univ Of New England vs. Salem State
March 22, 2008
The Game Story:
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Salem State College scored the first three goals of the fourth period to overcome a one-goal deficit on its way to a 10-9 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over the University of New England in cold and windy conditions Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 8-7 after three periods, the Vikings would reel off three unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the final quarter. Justin Jones '10 (Danvers, Mass.) tied the score at 8 with 1:05 elapsed when he converted a pass from Jonathan Falls '11 (Seekonk, Mass.). Falls would then put Salem State ahead for good just 14 seconds later, and Nate Snow '10 (Salem, Mass.) tacked on a much-needed insurance goal with 10:06 to play, giving the Vikings a 10-8 lead.

The Nor'easters would close to within one (10-9) at 7:43 when Dan Leyden '09 (Northfield, Mass.) notched a man-up goal, his fourth score of the match.

The Vikings slowed things down in the final two minutes, limiting the number of opportunities the Nor'easters had to square the game.

Snow, Luke Metraw '10 (Chelmsford, Mass.) and James Cross '11 (Beverly, Mass.) each had a pair of goals to pace Salem State. Jones finished with a goal and three assists for a team-high four points. Goalie Greg Gaudet '11 (Lynn, Mass.) made six saves to earn the victory.

The Vikings (3-1)--winners of three straight--held a slight advantage in shots (38-30) and ground balls (61-56).

Jon Ebert '08 (Auburn, N.H.) and Mike Nawrocki '09 (Baldwin, Md.) had two goals apiece for the Nor'easters, while Andy Briggs '09 (Scituate, R.I.) recorded 13 saves. Defender Paris Mansmann '09 (North Yarmouth, Maine) was credited with a game-high 10 ground balls.

UNE (2-4) returns to action next Wednesday (March 26) on the road at Roger Williams University. Salem State will look to extend its win streak Tuesday (March 25) when it plays host to the University of Southern Maine.
