Us Merchant Marine vs. Stevens Tech
April 15, 2006
The Game Story:
Kings Point, NY - The Mariners controlled the tempo in maintaining the rapid fire Ducks to 40 shots and seven goals, but Stevens Tech held USMMA to a season-low three goals en route to claiming the Knickerbocker League regular season championship and top seed in the upcoming playoffs.

After a defensive-minded five minutes, Stevens struck first blood as Eric Smith found the back of the net courtesy as assist from John Dolny at the 9:54 mark of the first period. Forty-two seconds later, Kings Point's Jim Flannery answered with a deceptively sweet behind-the-back goal off a pass from Tony Buleza to knot the game at one.

The game remained tied for nearly 16 minutes before the Ducks reclaimed the lead with Dolny assisting Joe Van Sickle for the go-ahead goal. Donly notched his third point of the half five minutes later with his first goal of the day to give Stevens a 3-1 advantage.

Less than four minutes into the third period Mark Bielicky scored the eventual game-winner to give the Ducks a three goal, 4-1 advantage. Stevens Tech added two more off tallies from Eric Smith and Rich Benson.

USMMA put an end to the string of four unanswered by the Ducks at the 12:49 mark of the fourth period on Ian Callery's unassisted tally. Tony McDonald scored the final goal for the Mariners with 4:16 remaining. Donly managed his fourth point of the day for Stevens on a goal with 33 ticks left.

With the win, the Ducks improved to 9-2 overall and 7-0 in league play, while a number of Mariner streaks came to an end. USMMA's five game overall and conference win-streak was broken, while junior attacker Sean Dougherty was held scoreless for the first time this season, putting an end to his string of 12 consecutive games with three or more goals.

USMMA (9-4, 5-1 Knickerbocker) returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 19 at Farmingdale State. Face off is slated for 4:30 p.m.
