Us Merchant Marine vs. Williams
March 18, 2006
The Game Story:
Kings Point, NY - The balance of Williams College proved to be too much for Kings Point as the Ephs handed the Lacrosse Mariners their first home loss of the season at Captain Tomb Field, 12-7.

Williams (1-1) established the momentum and pace immediately with the first of three goals on the afternoon by Drew Gottenborg coming less than three minutes into the contest to give the Ephs the early 1-0 advantage. Junior Sean Dougherty knotted the affair with his 99th career goal at the 8:14 mark of the first, but Williams would respond with six unanswered, including two quick tallies to start the third period to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

Juniors Jim Flannery and Tony Buleza put an end to the Mariner scoring drought with goals at 9:46 and 1:47, respectively, making it a four-point deficit (7-3). But the Ephs put any hopes of a fourth period rally to sleep with three straight goals in the opening four minutes.

Dougherty (Sean) reached the second milestone of his career with his second tally coming in the third period to notch the 100th goal of his career. The Ellicot City, MD native eclipsed 100 points for his career earlier in the season. He also managed to extend his hat-trick streak to seven-games with his third goal of the day coming with 4:22 remaining.

Freshman Brennan Dougherty and Flannery also etched goals in the fourth period for the Mariners.

Junior John Pagano (4-3) stood strong in net amidst 43 shots taken by Williams College. He recorded 14 saves on the day in the loss. His counterpart Rob Hawkins recorded 13 saves in the win for Williams.

USMMA (4-3) will look to put an end to its current three-game skid on Saturday, Mar. 25 at 4 p.m. versus Knickerbocker opponent Stockton College.
