The Game Story:
Kings Point, NY – The United States Merchant Marine Academy Men’s Lacrosse team fell to Muhlenberg College 12-8 on Tuesday evening.

In what was this season’s first night game at Brooks Stadium, the Mariners came out the locker room slinging balls of fire at goaltender Andrew Bell. In what was his only point of the night, senior Sean Dougherty connected first on a Jim Flannery assisted goal with 9:16 left to play in the quarter after Muhlenberg’s Sean Toohill scored four minutes into the game. With the score tied at one a piece, Brennan Dougherty assisted teammates Brian Flannery, David Allen and Jim Flannery to put the Mariners up 4-1 with four minutes left. The Mules wouldn’t go away and Toohill connected for another to make it a two point game.

The Mariners started the quarter quick, scoring 19 seconds into the quarter off of a Jim Flannery assisted goal to Brennan Dougherty who ended the game with three assists and one goal. The Mules then went on a tear, scoring the games next three goals to tie the match at 5-5. Flannery and Ryan Merritt each tallied a goal to pull ahead by two before Muhlenberg’s Kyle Farris slung in a quick one just before the half.

Up by a point with an entire half left to play, the team wearing Blue & Gray only point in the half came by Ian Callery with 1:57 left to play in the 3rd. The Mariners were struck with double teams and constant pressure from the Mules defenders.

Facing a two point deficit entering the fourth quarter, the Mariners gave it their all as they watched their undefeated season slip away at the hands of Muhlenberg College.

With the loss, the Mariners drop to 4-1, while the visiting Mules improve to 3-0 on the season.

The next match is schedule for March 17th against the visiting Montclair State. Faceoff is slated for 2pm.
