Us Merchant Marine vs. Mount Saint Vincent

The Game Story:
Kings Point, NY - On a brisk afternoon at Captain Tomb Field, the United States Merchant Marine Academy Lacrosse Mariners opened the 2006 campaign in style with a season-opening record 22 goals in a rout of Mt. St. Vincent College.



Kings Point spent the entire first half at the net of the Dolphins, leaving no doubt at the end of the first period, taking a 12-0 lead into the second stanza. The Mariners tacked on five more in the second and five goals in the final two frames. Mt. St. Mary's avoided the shutout in the third courtesy a goal by Jason Reynolds. The Dolphins outscored USMMA 4-2 in the fourth period.



The trio of juniors Sean Doughtery and Jim Flannery and freshman Brennan Doughtery accounted for 16 of the Mariners' 22 points with four goals each. Doughtery (Sean) notched a team-high seven points on the day, while Bryan Gray and Flannery etched six points each.



Junior John Pagano earned the win in net for the Mariners, while Tom Egan stood strong for Mt. St. Vincent with 15 saves in the loss. Bryan Winter notched a hat trick with three goals for the Dolphins.



"It was a good win to start the season," said head coach Tom Gill. "We hope to carry our momentum into Saturday's conference opener versus Montclair State."
