| UTICA, NY - Heading into the biggest game so far this season on Saturday
against Cortland, the sixth-ranked Hartwick
College men's lacrosse team coasted to an easy victory over Utica College in
Empire 8 Conference action on Wednesday night. Ethan Poole (Geneva/Geneva, NY) had five goals and two assists, while Ross Pino (Webster/Rochester, NY) had two goals and five assists for Hartwick in a 19-6 win over the Pioneers. The Hawks led 8-0 after the first quarter and had a 16-1 lead at one point in the third quarter. Hartwick is now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8. Pino now has 194 career points and he moved into fourth place all-time at Hartwick in assists with 85. Meanwhile, Poole moved into fourth place in career goals for the Hawks with 105. Ryan Hoffmeister (St. Sebastian's/Norfolk, MA) added five goals for Hartwick. Kevin Geraghty (Massapequa/Lindenhurst, NY) had one goal and four assists, while Ryan Maloney (Downingtown/Downingtown, PA), Brett Raboy (Ward Melville/South Setauket, NY) and Drew Rose (Cheshire/Cheshire, CT) all had one goal and one assist. Bill Luzzi (Valley Stream/Valley Stream, NY) added one assist and went 14-1 on face-offs. Luzzi is now 113-34 in face-offs this season. Rose, Brian Prescott (Duxbury/Quincy, MA) and Noah Hollander (Guilford/Guilford, CT) all picked up their first collegiate goals. A.J. Palagonia (Penfield/Penfield, NY) also tallied for the Hawks. Mark Colite (Southington/Southington, CT), the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week last week, had seven saves in the first half and Mike Bannon (Wilb/Mon Academy/Wilbraham, MA) stopped five shots in the final 30 minutes. Hartwick and fourth-ranked Cortland (7-1) will play at noon on All-Weather Field. The Red Dragons, who took a 10-6 win over 10th-ranked Nazareth on Wednesday, have won seven straight since falling to Division II power Adelphi in overtime in the first game of the season. |
