The Game Story:
UTICA, NY ^ The Utica College men^s lacrosse team earned its first Empire 8 Conference victory of the season in a monumental 17-11 upset over conference foe RIT on Tuesday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

The Pioneers (5-6, 1-5 Empire 8) came out firing, scoring all three of the first-quarter^s goals and six of the second quarter^s eight goals to establish a 9-2 halftime advantage. The Tigers of RIT threatened in the second half, netting three unanswered goals in the half^s opening 12 minutes, before UC closed the contest with an 8-6 run to capture the win.

Junior A.J. Fus (Auburn/Auburn) tallied a game-high six points on one goal and five assists to lead UC, while a trio of other Pioneers posted four-point performances. Sophomore Matt Donaldson (General Brown/Dexter) netted four goals, sophomore Pete Masterpole (Bishop Ludden/Syracuse) scored three goals and distributed an assist, and junior Ken Fischmann (West Genesee/Camillus) managed two goals and two assists.

Rounding out UC^s top offensive performers was junior Matt Bolen (Paul V. Moore/Bernhards Bay), who finished the contest with three goals, and sophomore Nate Jobson (General Brown/Dexter), who added one goal and two assists.

Senior Cory Reid (Bethlehem/Delmar) had a strong outing for the Pioneers, winning 17-of-24 face-off opportunites and collecting a school-record 17 groundballs on the day.

Freshman Shawn Ryan (Webster/Webster) worked a complete game in the goal for UC, securing 16 saves amidst 46 RIT shot attempts.

Zach Bednarz highlighted the Tigers^ (6-5, 3-2 Empire 8) efforts with four goals on nine shots, while Dave Griffin rounded out the team^s only multi-point performers with two goals. Goaltender Luke Pitcher made 13 saves and allowed 17 goals over 60 minutes of action.

The Pioneers continue conference competition on Saturday, April 26, when they host St. John Fisher College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
