In the first half, Vassar defended well against Clarkson but fell victim to two scoring spurts by the Golden Knights. While Vassar survived the man advantage, Clarkson soon jumped out to 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in a span of 15 seconds, from freshman Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), and sophomore John Furgal (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford).

Vassar responded with a goal at 11:22 in the second period, as senior Isaac Krull (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead) finished off an assist from junior Nick Cardillo (Honeoye Falls, McQuaid Jesuit). With junior Ed Pappo (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) in goal to start the third period, Gibbons scored from a difficult angle to the right side of the goal to increase Clarkson’s lead to 7-1. Less than a minute later, Ko finished a counter-attack for the Brewers, but Gibbons responded at 6:47 with an unassisted tally, his third of the game. With 37 seconds to play in the third period, senior Tom Ross (Adams, NY/South Jefferson) increased the Golden Knight lead to 9-2 heading in the final quarter.

Clarkson continued its offensive output early in the fourth period, as sophomore Mitchel Collins (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) scored with a low shot from the right side before Gibbons finished a goal mouth scramble for his fourth of the contest.

Freshman goaltender Pat Sweeney (Canton,NY/Canton) came on for Clarkson and made several difficult saves for the Golden Knights.

For Clarkson, Sweeney finished with seven saves in relief for starter John Svoren (Hamburg, NY/Canisius), who also made seven stops. Huff finished with three assists for the Golden Knights.

Clarkson senior attack Greg Gibbons (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker), who had tallied 11 goals in Clarkson’s previous two games, added four more against the Brewers, giving him 26 on the season. He scored three times in the second half for the Golden Knights. Vassar freshman Jaeryong Ko (Daegu, Korea/Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall) scored his first two career goals for the Brewers.
