Vassar vs. Keuka
March 8, 2008
The Game Story:
KINGSTON, NY (March 8, 2008) -- For three periods, Vassar's men's lacrosse game against Keuka College was evenly played, and with the contest tied 5-5 heading into the final 15 minutes, the game would be decided by the team who could display an offensive edge. Behind a five goal fourth quarter, four of which came from senior midfielder Justin Pecori (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson), Keuka had the offensive output needed and defeated the Brewers, 10-6, in a hard and chilling rain at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY.

Vassar, which held a 4-2 edge early in the third period, falls to 0-3 on the season. Keuka, meanwhile, earned its first win of the season.

Pecori and senior goalie Chad Green (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) became the storyline in the fourth quarter. Green made six of his 19 saves in the final period and Pecori scored back-to-back goals twice, enabling the Storm to pull away from a Vassar team that had built leads of 3-1 early in the second quarter and 4-2 early in the third quarter. The Brewers held a 3-2 halftime lead.

Pecori scored the fourth period's first two goals to put Keuka ahead 7-5. Vassar answered Keuka's seventh goal two minutes later, when sophomore attack Cody Scandore (North Andover, MA/North Andover) scored following a rebound to cut the lead to 7-6.

Pecori answered twice, getting back-to-back goals in less than two minutes, with 9:25 and 7:43 to play, pushing the Keuka lead to 9-6. Any Vassar offensive assault was then adeptly handled by Green, who faced 36 shots from the Brewers, 11 of which came in the fourth period.

Keuka's junior midfielder Chris Sullivan (East Northport, NY/East Northport) scored the games first goal, but the Brewers scored three straight, courtesy of sophomore attack Sean Murray (Wyckoff, NJ/Deerfield Academy), freshman midfielder Sam Seymour (Winchester, MA/Winchester) and freshman midfielder Ryan Hart (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West).

The Brewers looked in control until Keuka's junior attack Jared Furnia (Skaneateles, NY/Cayuga) closed the margin to 3-2 at half.

Seymour put Vassar ahead 4-2 with a goal four minutes into the third period, but Keuka once again closed the margin to 4-3 off an unassisted goal by junior midfielder TJ Radka (Waterloo, NY/Cayuga). The resilient Brewers went ahead 5-3 followed Murray's second goal of the game, but in an unsettling pattern, Keuka was able to get to close again, 5-4, following a goal by junior attack Adam Farrell (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) and the tying fifth goal by Sullivan with 1:33 left in the third period.

Vassar's sophomore goalie Ed Pappo (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) made 10 saves, including six in the second period. Keuka had 26 shots in the game.
