The Game Story:
KINGSTON, N.Y. - The Rensselaer men's lacrosse team captured its fifth straight victory this afternoon, defeating Vassar, 11-3, in the Liberty League opener for both teams. The game, which was played at Dietz Stadium, saw the Red Hawks improve to 5-1 on the season while the Brewers fell to 0-3.

The visiting Red Hawks got things going early in the game, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter. Ahead 3-1, Vassar finally got on the board, but RPI continued to pressure putting up three more goals for a 5-1 lead at halftime.

Playing a tight game into the third stanza, Vassar pulled to within 5-3 but Rensselaer wouldn't back down, rattling off three goals in the third and fourth quarters for the 11-2 lead. The Brewers added a final tally near the six minute mark but were unable to get any closer.

Leading the scoring for RPI was senior Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington), who had three goals. Classmates Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), PJ McComb (Newington, CT/Newington) and freshman Nick Billy (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) all had two goals each. In goal for the Red Hawks, sophomore Ryan DeJordy (Albany, NY/Columbia) made eight saves in 54:00 minutes to pick up the win while freshman Angelo Luppino (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) stopped two shots in six minutes.

Vassar saw three different players tally goals while netminder Ed Pappo stopped 12 shots in the loss.

RPI held the advantage on the stats sheet, outshooting the Brewers 51-20 in the game. The Red Hawks also had 38 ground balls to Vassar's 25.

Rensselaer returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Potsdam at Harkness Field (4pm). Vassar also plays on Wednesday when it hosts Farmingdale State (4pm).
