| OWINGS MILLS, Md-- In their first match of the season, Villa Julie hosted #3 nationally ranked SUNY-Cortland. With the win, 10-9, the Mustangs improve their record to 1-0 while Cortland falls to 0-1. Villa Julie was the first to appear on the scoreboard with a goal at 10:51 by Nicola Bevacqua (Booton Township, NJ/ Mt. Lakes) assisted by Greg Furshman (Miami, FL/ Towson University). The Mustangs ended the first period 3-0 after one goal from Trevor Giancola (Syracuse, NY/ Fayetteville Manlius) and another from Bevacqua. Cortland returned in the second period to score a goal at the 13:58 mark. Dustin Harlowe (Golden Beach, MD/ St. Mary's Ryken) retaliated with a goal assisted by Andrew White (Cockeysville, MD/ Loyola). After another goal by Bevacqua, the Mustangs remained scoreless for the rest of the period while Cortland grabbed four consecutive goals to tie the game at 5-5 for the half. In the third period, Cortland took their first and only lead at 11:21, 6-5. However, two goals by White and one by Bevacqua finished the period with the Mustangs leading 8-7. In the final period, Cortland attempted to take over the game, but goals by Jimmy Dailey (Westminster, MD/ WInter Mills) and Chris Baldwin (Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall/ USNA) ensured the win for the Mustangs. Bevaqua led the Mustangs in scoring with four goals, while goalie Jason Woodford (Timonium, MD/ Dulaney/ Drew) made 15 saves. The Mustangs return to the field on Wednesday, February 28 as they host Marymount at 3:00 p.m. |
