| Villa Julie suffers tough loss to University of Mary Washington Stevenson, MD - As the rain kept coming so did the Eagles of Mary Washington as they took control early and never let up on their way to a 17-9 win over Villa Julie College. UMW held the Mustangs scoreless for the first 29 minutes of play and raced out to a 7-0 advantage. VJC freshman Brent Woolford (Pasadena,MD/Northeast) finished a loose ball off a shot from about five yards out to get the home team on the board. Mary Washington would net one more goal before the break to take a 8-1 halftime lead. Mary Washington continued to extend their margin in the second half by taking a 13-1 lead late into the third quarter. VJC sophomore Matt Miller (Denver, CO/George Washington) added a spark to the Mustang offense by starting a five goal run with an underhand rocket from the left of the goal. Villa Julie cut the deficit to seven at 13-6 but would get no closer as the Eagles, led by Dave Morris' six points, finished the Mustangs 17-9. UMW's Mark Fiore, Adam Hart, and Greg Rose each contributed four points in the win. For Villa Julie, Woolford, Miller, sophomore Travis Hinkle (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin), and junior Andrew White (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) completed the day with 2 points each. The Eagles were 5 of 8 in man-up opportunities while Villa Julie was 2 of 8. UMW took 39 shots to VJC's 37 and UMW had the slight edge in groundballs with 42 to VJC's 40. |
