| Owings Mills, MD- Villa (2-0) hosted Messiah (0-2) in today’s match. Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, NY/Henniger) earned nine goals, one assist, and six groundballs. Villa out-shot Messiah 67 to 38, and had 52 groundballs to Messiah’s 31. Kazimer scored the first goal of the first quarter assisted by Nicola Bevacqua (Booton Township, NJ/Mt. Lakes) with 4:20 remaining. Richard Ford (Baltimore, MD/Towson) added two more goals before the end of the quarter to increase Villa’s lead to 3-0. Messiah scored their first goal at 12:58 in the second quarter. It was followed by four Mustangs goals and two more Messiah goals for a score of 7-3. Messiah attempted a comeback in the second half, scoring four goals in the third quarter and six in the fourth, while Villa maintained their lead with six goals in each quarter. Along with Kazimer, the Mustangs were also led by Ford with four goals and Greg Furshman (Miami, FL/Towson) and Bevacqua with two goals each. Drew Brady (Newton Square, PA/Penncrest) tallied four assists. Chole Mueller (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's) led the team defensively with four caused turnovers. The Mustangs travel next to Gettysburg on March 5 for a 3:30 p.m. game. |
