|Mustangs ride Wolford and Miller to victory|
Stevenson, MD.- The Mustangs win for the first time in the 2004 season against conference foe Neumann College 13-8. Neumann started off fast taking the early lead at halftime 4-2, and then again after three quarters 8-6. VJ just could not get going playing sluggish throughout the first half. Then all at once the Mustangs caught fire on offense and defense to score 11 goals in the second half, and seven unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Matt Smoot was phenomenal on face offs helping the Mustangs win an amazing 15/22 for the game, and 11/14 in the second half. This enabled Villas attack to get going and allow Junior Derek Wolford to have a career high 5 goals off of 7 shots, and Sophomore Matt Miller to amass seven points (3 goals, four assists) in the big win. Junior Goal Keeper Travis Phipps had 9 saves for the Mustangs. For the Knights, Senior goal keeper Richard Boulay had a game-high 21 saves from 34 total shots. The Mustangs go into hostile territory next Saturday to take on archrival Wesley College in a very important conference match-up.
