| VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College put together an explosive third quarter Wednesday en route to taking a 15-11 non-conference victory from the Bearcats of St. Vincent College at Foster Field. St. Vincent (0-1) jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter and held a 7-5 advantage at halftime, but could not keep pace with the Marlins (2-2) in the third quarter as the host team posted seven goals to take a 12-8 lead into the final quarter. Senior Drew Langis (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) scored three consecutive goals to start the third for VWC and added an assist on a goal by junior Shawn Fitchpatrick (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell). Junior Tim Homa (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) added two goals in the decisive third, which included two assists by rookie Adam Nycz (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquios.) Nycz finished with five assists overall and added a goal as well. Sophomore Damian Becker (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) scored four goals to share goal-producing honors with Langis, and Homa added three goals overall. Jake Dick and Neil Quinn led St. Vincent with three goals each. Will DeLanoy recorded five assists. Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Saturday, March 7, playing at McDaniel College in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. |
