| The Game Story: | |||||
| VIRGINIA BEACH, VA--For the second time in his Roanoke College career,
Kris Davis (Parkton, MD/Hereford) scored an overtime goal to give the
Roanoke College men^Òs lacrosse team an overtime victory at Virginia
Wesleyan College. Davis^Ò OT goal on Saturday gave the 12th ranked
Maroons a 13-12 come-from-behind win, giving the Maroons a 5-1 overall
record and a 1-0 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The
Marlins, who scored seven fourth period goals, fall to 2-4 overall and
0-1 in league play.
Davis would not have had the chance to score the overtime goal had it not been for two Roanoke in the final 13 seconds of the fourth period. Behind 12-10 with less than a minute to play, Garrett Yaralian (Fripp Island, SC/Mt. Lakes) brought the Maroons to within one with his lone goal of the game. Roanoke^Òs Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) won the ensuing face-off, dodged through several Virginia Wesleyan defenders and found the back of the net with just six seconds left, tying the score at 12. Following several chances by both teams in overtime, Davis gave the Maroons the win with an unassisted goal with just eight seconds left in the first OT period. As a freshman with the Maroons, Davis gave the team a 14-13 win with an overtime goal on the same field. The Maroons controlled much of the extra frame, outschooting the Marlins 8-1 in the five minutes of play and forcing VWC keeper Tyler Sothoron to make four saves. The game came down to its unbelievable finish only after the Marlins scored seven fourth period goals, including a stretch of five straight. The Maroons led 7-5 heading into the fourth, and after the teams traded four goals, two each, the Marlins got five straight goals from five different players to take a 12-9 lead. Roanoke^Òs Dan Reed (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) scored Roanoke^Òs nine goal, that with 2:52 to play in regulation. |
