The Game Story:
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back in claiming a 16-6 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field.

Five different players for W&L (9-1, 1-0) found the net in the opening 16:09 of the game as the Generals opened a 5-0 lead with 13:51 remaining in the first half. The Marlins (3-7, 0-1) got their first tally at the 12:07 mark of the second quarter, but three goals by senior attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) in a span of 1:09 pushed the W&L lead out to 8-1 with 10:40 left in the half.

Drew Langis and Curran Lee both scored unassisted goals for the Marlins to make it an 8-3 game with 5:14 left before halftime, but junior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Drew Koeneman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) with seven seconds left to make the score 9-3 at the break.

Virginia Wesleyan's Travis Puls found the net unassisted to start the third quarter scoring, but the Generals went on a three-goal spurt with scores from sophomore midfielder Gerard Savarese (Lutherville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield), senior midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and sophomore attackman Spence Daw (Phoenix, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) to push out to a 12-4 lead with 5:50 left in the third quarter.

Another three-goal W&L rally, including two goals from Keigler, put the game out of reach as the Generals cruised to the 10-goal win. For the game, W&L held advantages of 52-32 in shots, 41-34 in ground balls and 17-8 on faceoffs.

Keigler paced the Washington and Lee offense with four goals and three assists, while Fishman tallied four goals. Daw notched one goal and three assists and senior midfielder Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) registered one goal and two assists. Senior Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) played the first 53:41 in goal and made 10 saves. Sophomore Ned Lundvall (Richmond, Va./Gilman) played the final 6:19 and had three stops.

Puls led the Marlins with two goals and one assist, while Drew Langis had one goal and two helpers. Lee added a pair of scores and John-Paul Novak logged all 60 minutes in goal, making 20 saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Guilford College for a 5:00 pm contest.
