The Game Story:
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Fifth-ranked host Washington College reeled off 10 unanswered goals in a 15-5 win over visiting Cabrini College in men's lacrosse action this afternoon at Kibler Field. Senior attackman Jon Spivey (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) and sophomore attackman Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) combined for seven goals and three assists in the win for the Shoremen (1-1).

The Cavaliers (0-2) took a 3-2 lead with 5:45 left in the first quarter when Kevin Rayer scored off an assist from Rory Friel. The Shoremen answered with three goals in 54 seconds, capped off by the first collegiate goal for sophomore midfielder Mike Hughes (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) with 2:53 left in the period. Cabrini cut the lead to 5-4 when Mark Phillips scored off an assist from Matt McKinney with 1:54 left in the first, but Spivey fired in an unassisted goal with two seconds left in the quarter to push the lead to 6-4.

Spivey's goal was the first of WAC's 10 unanswered goals. The Shoremen outscored the Cavaliers, 3-0, in the second quarter to take a 9-4 lead and 4-0 in the third quarter to increase the margin to 13-4. The Shoremen took their biggest lead of the game when sophomore midfielder Chris Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) scored off an assist from junior attackman Chris Dodge (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) with 1:23 to play in the fourth quarter to make it 15-4. Cabrini's Bill Cordts scored an extra-man goal off an assist from Rory Friel with two-tenths of a second left in the game to provide the final margin.

Spivey finished the game with four goals and two assists, while Ostrusky added three goals and one assist for the Shoremen. Mancini scored the first two goals of his collegiate career in the game, while freshman attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) scored two goals of his own. Freshman midfielder Andrew Generazio (Springfield, VA/West Springfield/Bridgton, ME), junior defenseman Tim Kerr (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph), senior defenseman Gregory Vetter (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis), and Hughes each scored one goal. Like Hughes, Generazio's goal was the first of his collegiate career. Sophomore midfielder Jason Hull (West Hartford, CT/Avon Old Farms) tallied three assists in the win, while senior midfielder Gabe Katz (Columbia, MD/Hammond) finished with two assists and Dodge added one helper.

Phillips led Cabrini with a pair of goals in the loss. Rayer, Cordts, and Paul Archambault each scored one goal, while Friel tallied two assists and McKinney contributed one assist.

Junior goalie Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, CT/Avon Old Farms) made 13 saves and allowed four goals in 58:47 of playing time for the Shoremen. Kevin Quinn made 19 stops for the Cavaliers.

Washington held a 52-25 advantage in shots and a 45-34 edge in ground balls. The Shoremen won 13-of-22 faceoffs in the game as Washington freshman midfielder Brent Hann (Forest Hill, MD/Calvert Hall) won seven of his eight attempts.

The Shoremen are back in action Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. home game against Ohio Wesleyan.
