|(Chestertown, Md.) – The #2-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team survived another tough Centennial Conference test with a solid 15-10 win at Washington College on Saturday. The Red Devils improved to 12-0 on the season and raise their conference mark to 5-0.|
The Shoremen put the first two goals on the board, scoring just 44 second apart to take 2-0 lead at the 11:58 mark of the first quarter. The Devils answered with goals from Tyler White (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) and Brian Gleason (Darien, Conn./Darien) to pull even at the 2:43 mark.
JD Campbell finished a Bennett Cord assist on an extra-man opportunity to give the hosts a 3-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Dickinson responded with five unanswered goals in the second period to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Five different players scored during the run while senior Matt Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) handed out two assists. White fed senior Christian Beitel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) to trigger the run before Cherry dished out helpers to Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) and Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley).
Junior face-off man Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) won possession and scored just seven seconds after Menard to give the Devils a 6-3 cushion with 5:26 to play in the first half. Cannon scored off a pass from Gleason at the 4:16 mark.
White broke up a three-goal run by Washington to open the second half as they cut the deficit to, 8-6, with 9:19 to play in the third. A four-goal run allowed the Devils to double-up the hosts, taking a 12-6 lead with 3:52 remaining in the quarter.
Campbell broke up the Dickinson run with a late tally, finding the net with 18 seconds left. Washington capitalized on a penalty and added another even-strength goal at the 8:56 mark to cut the Devils' lead to just three, 12-9.
Dickinson regained control with a three straight goals to go up, 15-9. Cherry assisted White and tallied the final goal of the day for the Devils at the 5:43 mark. Will Scott (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) got into the scoring column with an assist from Gleason with 6:16 remaining.
Jim Cusick added one more for Washington for the final of 15-10. Campbell led the 10th-ranked Shoremen with four goals on the day while Cord scored once and handed out four assists. Ted DiSalvo made 14 saves in goal for Washington (10-2, 4-2).
Cherry scored once and handed out four assists to raise his school record to 89 in his career. White finished with a hat-trick, scoring three goals and handing out an assist. Cannon tallied a hat-trick as well, while Gleason scored twice and dished out a pair of assists.
Senior Peter Zouck (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) caused four turnovers and controlled four ground balls to anchor the Devils' defensive effort. Moore won 13-of-26 face-offs and controlled five GBs to go with his goal.
Senior Greg Hanley (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) made 14 saves in the nets, picking up four GBs and causing a turnover.
