The Game Story:
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior goalie Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, CT/Avon Old Farms) made 18 saves and sophomore attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) fired in four goals and assisted on another to lead host Washington College past visiting St. Mary's (MD), 10-3, in a non-conference men's lacrosse game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Kirby Stadium. The Shoremen improved to 3-0 on the season with the win, while the Seahawks slipped to 2-1 with the loss.

Neither team scored in the first quarter. The Shoremen opened the scoring 40 seconds into the second quarter with a goal by Read off an assist from senior attackman Sam Lane (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield). Junior attackman Kevin Nolan (Clark, NJ/A.L. Johnson) scored on an extra-man opportunity 28 seconds later to push the lead to 2-0. The Seahawks got on the board when Cyrus Albertson scored off a feed from Pat Donovan with 9:01 left in the period, but a goal by Washington junior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) with 6:45 on the clock and another Lane-to-Read goal with 1:10 left gave the Shoremen a 4-1 cushion at halftime.

Dave Mueller pulled the Seahawks to within two by opening the third-quarter scoring with 10:46 to play, but junior midfielder Mike Hughes (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) answered for Washington 65 seconds later. St. Mary's again cut the lead to two goals, at 5-3, when Pat Oliphant scored off an assist from Mueller with 7:39 left in the period, but the Shoremen finished the game with five unanswered goals to pull away. Lane began the run with a goal off a Read assist with 6:58 left in the third and senior defenseman Tim Kerr (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) scored off an assist from junior attackman Chris Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) with 3:21 remaining in the third quarter. Read opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a goal with 11:50 to play, Nolan followed with a goal off a feed from sophomore midfielder E.J. Lewis (Carroll County, MD/South Carroll), and Read finished the scoring with an extra-man goal off a feed from freshman attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) with 9:30 left in the game.

Nolan joined Read as a multiple-goal scorer by finishing with two goals. Lane finished with one goal and two assists. Twelve of Thibadeau's 18 saves came in the first half. Kerr added seven ground balls to go along with his goal.

The Shoremen won 12 of the game's 16 face-offs as sophomore midfielder Brent Hann (Forest Hill, MD/Calvert Hall) turned in a 10-of-14 performance.

Washington held a 29-25 advantage in shots in the game. The Shoremen also held a 39-29 edge in ground balls, including a 24-11 advantage in the second half.

The Shoremen return to action next Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Washington and Lee.
