The Game Story:
CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sophomore midfielder Thayer Damm (Huntington Valley, PA/LaSalle) won 16 of 17 face-offs and sophomore attackman Mike O'Hara (Export, PA/Franklin Regional/Bridgton, ME) scored his first three collegiate goals as 12th-ranked host Washington College defeated visiting Swarthmore College, 12-4, in a Centennial Conference men's lacrosse game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

Swarthmore (4-5, 2-4 Centennial) scored on its first two shots of the game to take a 2-0 lead, but Washington (9-3, 4-2) controlled the game the rest of the way, scoring the next 11 goals in a row. The Shoremen held the Garnet to just 13 shots in the game - four each in the first, second, and fourth quarters and just one in the third - while taking 27 shots of their own. Washington dominated face-offs, winning 17 of 19 overall. Damm's 16 face-off wins were a career-high; he also set career highs in face-off percentage (.941) and ground balls (11).

O'Hara, who had taken one shot in two career games prior to tonight, fired in all three of his goals in the second quarter. Senior midfielder Mike Hughes (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) also scored three goals for the Shoremen and added one assist, while junior midfielder Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) and sophomore attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) each finished with one goal and two assists. Freshman midfielders Will Fletcher (Roanoke, VA/Woodberry Forest) and Chad Freedman (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) each scored their first collegiate goal.

David DeSimone, Anthony Phalen, Tyler Bradshaw, Gavin Nurick each scored one goal for Swarthmore.

The Shoremen have now beaten Swarthmore 34 straight times, having last lost to the Garnet in 1953.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Dickinson.
