The Game Story:
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Host Washington College ran off eight unanswered goals to build a 9-1 lead after three quarters en route to a 9-7 men's lacrosse victory over visiting McDaniel in the Centennial Conference opener for both schools this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.

The Shoremen (3-2) took a 1-0 lead with 6:36 left in the first quarter when sophomore attackman Bennett Cord (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Shane Kaski (Mosley, VA/Midlothian). McDaniel (3-4) tied the score nine seconds later on a goal by DJ Rickels at 6:27. The rest of the first half belonged to the Shoremen, who ran off five unanswered goals to end the period, capped off by a goal from Kaski with 2:52 on the clock. Junior midfielder Michael Pancottine (Bellevue, WA/Issaquah) netted a crucial man-down goal in transition 20 seconds into the second quarter. Pancottine's goal was the first of his collegiate career.

Washington scored all three third-quarter goals to extend the lead to 9-1 on a goal by Cord off an assist from sophomore midfielder Patrick Coyle (Reisterstown, MD/Calvert Hall) with 1:17 left in the period. McDaniel scored six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter, including four in the final five minutes, but could not complete the comeback.

Cord led all players with three goals in the win for Washington, while Coyle had two goals and one assist and Kaski had a goal and an assist. Junior goalie Peter Stewart (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) made 15 saves in goal for the Shoremen.

McDaniel got two goals and one assist from DJ Rickels in the game. Ben Yancheski added a pair of goals. Christian Dallmus made nine saves between the pipes for the Green Terror. Matt Dean went 13-for-18 on face-offs with seven ground balls for McDaniel.

The Shoremen held a slim 37-36 edge in shots for the game, despite getting out-shot, 21-2, in the fourth quarter.
