| CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attackman Jon Spivey (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) matched his career high of six goals and handed out two assists, while freshman attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) matched his career high of four goals and recorded a career-high three assists as eighth-ranked host Washington College handled visiting Muhlenberg, 17-6, in a Centennial Conference men's lacrosse game this afternoon at Kibler Field. The Shoremen improved to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win, while the Mules fell to 7-7 and 0-6. The Shoremen held a 5-0 lead at halftime and exploded for nine goals in the third quarter to build a 14-3 advantage after three periods. Washington held a 44-35 advantage in shots and dominated both ground balls (46-26) and face-offs (18-9). The second half of the game was played in a driving rain. Sophomore midfielder Mike Hughes (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) joined Read and Spivey as a Washington multiple-goal scorer, finishing with two in the game. Hughes was also a perfect nine-for-nine on face-offs and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls. Sophomore attackman Kevin Nolan (Clark, NJ/A.L. Johnson) added one goal and one assist for Washington, while senior midfielder Gabe Katz (Columbia, MD/Hammond) recorded two assists. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME), freshman midfielder Andrew Generazio (Springfield, VA/West Springfield/Bridgton, ME), junior attackman Chris Dodge (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), and sophomore midfielder Chris Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) each had one goal, while freshman midfielder Steve Humphries (Fairfax, VA/Hayfield Secondary), freshman midfielder Josh Meunier (West Chester, PA/The Hill School), and sophomore defenseman Matt Sparks (Baltimore, MD/Mount St. Joseph) each tallied one assist. Meunier's and Humphries' assists were the first of their respective collegiate careers. Junior goalie Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, CT/Avon Old Farms) played the first 49:54 of the game for the Shoremen, making 11 saves, while allowing only three goals. Galen Marsh led Muhlenberg with two goals. Mickey Norton added a goal and an assist, while Sean Toohill, Cliff Burwell, and Justin Hollander each scored one goal. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Swarthmore. |
