|The Game Story:|
|LEXINGTON, Va. -- Franklin & Marshall scored two goals in the final 4:53
of the game for a 5-4 upset of third-ranked Washington and Lee in men's
lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.
After the Generals (3-1) assumed a 4-3 lead on a goal by junior midfielder Dustin Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) with 8:04 remaining in the game, the Diplomats knotted the score at 4-4 on an unassisted goal by junior midfielder Bas Solleveld (Glenmoore, Pa./Shipley) with 4:53 left. Senior attackman Bryan Nolan (Scottsdale, Ariz./Western Reserve) then scored the game-winner off an assist from sophomore attackman Colin Hanley (Davidsonville, Md./DeMatha) with 3:06 remaining in the game.
W&L had several opportunities to tie the game in the final minutes, but could not find the net. The best look came with just over 30 seconds remaining as sophomore attackman Jack Murray (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle) found himself one-on-one with F&M sophomore goalie Mike Sartorius (Summit, N.J./Summit) on a fast-break. Murray's shot sailed high and the Diplomats survived.
W&L was led by Martin's two goals, while junior Ansel Sanders (Weems, Va./Woodberry Forest) notched 12 saves in goal.
F&M was led Hanley, who tallied one goal and one assist. Sartorius notched 11 saves in goal.
Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday as it travels to Roanoke for a 1:00 pm contest.
