The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. Senior attackmen Matt Fink (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall) and Mike McNamara (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola) combined for five goals and five assists as 19th-ranked Washington and Lee defeated Mary Washington, 9-8, in men's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (4-3) broke a 2-2 tie at the half by scoring five straight goals in the first 4:16 of the third quarter. Fink tallied two goals during the stretch and assisted on another. However, the Eagles (3-2) would score the game's next three goals to cut the W&L advantage to 7-5 with 13:18 remaining in the contest.

W&L senior midfielder Dustin Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) found the net off an assist by senior midfielder Mark McLewee (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) with 9:11 remaining to extend the lead to 8-5, but MWC came right back with a pair of extra-man goals to make the score 8-7. Fink pushed the lead back to two goals with a goal off a feed from Martin with 2:09 remaining and MWC senior midfielder Lee Thompson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) capped the scoring with 23 seconds left, scoring off an assist by sophomore attackman Dave Morris (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle).

Fink notched four goals and one assist, while McNamara tallied one goal and four assists. Senior midfielder Richard Williams (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) recorded two goals, while Martin had one goal and one assist. Senior Ansel Sanders (White Stone, Va./Woodberry Forest) stopped a career-high 16 shots in goal.

Mary Washington was led by senior attackman Matt Wiles (Gainesville, Va./Paul VI), who scored three goals. Thompson and junior attackman Mark Fiore (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) each had one goal and two assists. Senior Mike D'Eredita (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) made eight saves in goal.

W&L returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Lynchburg for a 2:00 pm contest.
