Univ. of New England vs Wentworth (Apr 23, 2005)
BOSTON, Massachusetts Senior midfielder T.J. Dahill (Hanover, Mass.) and junior attacker Ryan McGovern (Marstons Mills, Mass.) each scored three goals and senior attacker Mike Wood (Wilton, Conn.) scored once and assisted on two others as the Wentworth Institute of Technology lacrosse team won its fifth straight game and got back to .500 with a 19-5 win over the University of New England in the final Commonwealth Coast Conference game for both teams.

The game was all Wentworth, as the Leopards scored nine first period goals, with Dahill scoring the first two in a span of 52 seconds. Dahill, Wood, and McGovern would score all of their points in the first period.

The Nor'Easters got their first goal of the game 2:17 into the second period on an unassisted goal by freshman attacker Kenny Gates (Cranston, R.I.). However, the Leopards would score the next five goals of the quarter, including two by junior midfielder Joe Marcel (Levittown, N.Y.) and led 14-1 after the first half of play.

Wentworth would outscore the visitors, 3-2 in the third period, as senior attacker Adam Kensiton (Plainville, Mass.), junior midfielder Jason Bornhorst (Waterville, Vt.), and junior midfielder Mark Hoffman (Saugus, Mass.) scored for Wentworth, while UNE got goals from senior attacker Matt Vieira (South Paris, Maine) and senior midfielder Ryan Rivard (East Freetown, Mass.).

The Leopards scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, on freshman midfielder Andy Kantorski's (Sherborn, Mass.) first two collegiate goals to take a 19-3 lead. The Nor'Easters got goals from senior midfielder Tucker Williamson (Underhill, Vt.) and Vieira to round out the scoring.

Junior Rich Hamaty (Hingham, Mass.) played the first 30:00 for Wentworth, stopping nine of 10 shots. Freshman Nick Murphy (Cohasset, Mass.) made seven saves on nine shots over the final 30:00. For the Nor'Easters, sophomore A.J. Gagliardi (Branford, Conn.) took the loss, allowing nine goals on 17 shots in 23:20 of work. Junior Bill Vasey (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made nine save on 14 shots in 21:40 of work, while sophomore Josh Perrone (Haverhill, Mass.) made three saves on eight shots in 15:00 of work.

With the win, Wentworth improves to 6-6 overall and finishes the season with a 5-3 CCC record. The Leopards finish tied for fourth with Roger Williams, but, by virtue of the Hawks' 11-6 win on April 9, Wentworth is seeded fifth and will travel to Roger Williams for a first round tournament game on Tuesday, at a time to be announced. University of New England finishes its season with a 1-10 (0-8) record.
