Wesley vs. Neumann

The Game Story:
DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's men's lacrosse team was edged by Neumann University, 8-7, on Wednesday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines are 2-12 on the season and await the result from tomorrow's Marymount-Hood CAC matchup to determine if they will advance to the playoffs.

Drew Hammer put Wesley on top to start the game as Joe Donato found him at the 12:09 mark, but the Knights scored three straight to end the first period.

Both teams would score one in the second as Neumann went into halftime with a 4-2 advantage.

The Wolverines outscored the Knights, 2-1, in the third on goals by Hammer and Scott Brozey, cutting the deficit to one at 5-4 entering the final period.

James Moss tied the game at five just 31 seconds into the fourth but Neumann answered with two straight and went up 7-5 with 8:43 left to play.

Tim Dougherty cut the lead in half with 6:59 remaining in regulation and Brozey tallied his second of the game to tie the score at 7 with 5:34 left.

Neumann would go back on top with 4:05 left and the Wolverines could not notch the equalizer for the third time.

The matchup was relatively even on all aspects as both teams had 30 turnovers and Wesley held a 54-51 advantage on ground balls. The Wolverines outshot the Knights, 50-24, but only 24 shots by Wesley were on goal.

Patrick Lipari (1g, 2a) and Hammer (2g, 1a) both had three points to lead the Wolverines while Dougherty and Ryan Morris had a game-high seven ground balls. Morris also caused a game-high six turnovers while Matt Ryan made 11 saves.

Ryan O'Kane had a game-high five points on three goals and two assists for Neumann while Mike Pantalone also had a hat trick. Andrew Neubauer made 16 saves in 58:53 with Alex Becker making one stop in 1:07. Neubauer came out with 7:55 left in regulation as he was caused for an illegal body check.
