| BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin men's lacrosse team
dropped an overtime decision to Wesleyan on
Saturday, 9-8. The Polar Bears fall to 3-5 overall
this season while the Cardinals improve to 6-3.
Wesleyan's Sam Fleischner scored his third goal of the game and 14th of the season by taking a pass from frosh Glen Adams in the middle of the box and firing a low bouncer into the net to the right of Bowdoin goalie Grant White for the game winner 3:18 into overtime. Wesleyan goalie Matt Wheeler set up the game-winning goal by making a save on a low shot by Bowdoin's Phil Stern, collecting the ball and tossing an outlet pass to Adams in the midfield area. Wesleyan jumped out to a 4-1 first-quarter lead by converting three extra-man situations into goals, but Bowdoin came right back in the second quarter, scoring the final three goals of the stanza to tie the game at halftime, 5-5. Bowdoin took a short-lived 7-6 lead in the third period on a goal by Kyle Courtiss with 4:21 left, but Wesleyan netted the last two goals of the quarter, one by Dave Fine and one by Fleischner, for an 8-7 Wesleyan lead. Bowdoin got its second extra-man goal of the game in the opening minute of the fourth period, scored by Ted Scholhamer, to even the count at 8-8 and the team played scoreless over the final 14:08 of the fourth quarter. |
