WESTERN MARYLAND 13, Franklin & Marshall College 12
Westminster, MD --- Terror Pull Out Double Overtime Thriller
In a back and forth battle in which momentum seemed to switch with every possession, the Green Terror had the
final word in pulling out a 13-12 victory over Franklin & Marshall in a rematch of last season?s ECAC South Final.
The goal came with 2:48 remaining. Junior Joe Ellis spotted Tom Brown who had flashed across the goal. Brown
caught a perfect pass and blasted home the winning goal.
The Diplomats held a 9-7 lead after 3 periods of play. F & M outscored WMC 5-2 in the period and appeared to
have momentum rolling into the forth. However the starting attack line of Ellis, Brown, and Rob Weaver had other
ideas. The three scored and assisted on the team?s final 8 goals. Even with their shining play, the real star of the
game was Goalie Brian Nottingham. Nottingham came up with 16-second half saves allowing the Terror offense to
find their rhythm.
Brown led Western Maryland with 5 goals and 2 assists. Ellis contributed 2 goals and 4 assists, while Weaver
scored 4 goals and gave out 2 assists.
The win keeps WMC at a perfect 9-0. They will return to action on Saturday at 1:30 when the visit Haverford. The
loss drops F&M to 6-4. Three of the diplomat losses have come in overtime. |
