Haverford College (6-2, 1-0) picked up its first win over McDaniel (3-3, 0-2) in 28 years, handing the Green Terror a 14-9 loss at Scott S. Bair Stadium.

McDaniel got off to a quick start with Brad Baer (Westminster, MD / Westminster) winning the opening face-off and running on the Haverford cage for a goal eight seconds into the game. 50 seconds later McDaniel led 2-0 after Baer set up Matt Buschman (Baltimore, MD / Calvert Hall) to give McDaniel a 2-0 lead inside of the game’s first minute. The Terror ran the lead to 5-1 by the end of the first quarter.

Then Haverford’s defense settled in. After rattling off 10 shots in the first quarter, the McDaniel offense hit a wall firing just 12 shots the rest of the way. The Fords out-shot McDaniel 39-22 in the game.

After McDaniel’s opening spate of goals, Haverford answered with a five-goal run on the McDaniel net. Max Tcheyan (Summit, NJ / Summit) made it 5-3 with a pair of goals early in the second quarter to spark the Haverford rally. He finished the game with 4 goals and an assist.

The Terror’s Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD / Kent County) tied the game at 6-6 with ten second left in the second quarter. McDaniel led briefly in the third quarter getting the first two goals of the second half, but Haverford responded with another Tcheyan sparked run of seven goals, including three from the stick of Dean Granoff (Wynnewood, PA / Friends Central). He scored a game-high 5 goals.

That run left Haverford with a 13-8 lead with 5:58 left in the game. Bear tried to get McDaniel going with his third goal of the game to make it 13-9 with 5:05 left, but the Terror was unable to mount any successful offensive forays the reminder of the game, allowing Haverford its first win in the series since a 9-5 victory at Haverford on April 9, 1977.

Baer was McDaniel’s leading scorer with 3 goals and 2 assists.

The loss is McDaniel’s third straight at home, and evens the Terror record at 3-3, 0-2. Haverford improves to 6-2, 1-0 on the season. The Green Terror returns to action on April 2 at Dickinson. That game is set for a 1:00pm start.
