| WESTMINSTER, Md. – Mary Washington scored four of the game's final five goals, including the game winner with 3:06 to play in the third overtime to defeat McDaniel 9-8 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday. Ben Yancheski (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) scored three goals to lead the Green Terror (1-1), who scored the game's first five goals. Joey Marson recorded a natural hat trick for the Eagles (3-0), helping to close that early 5-0 deficit to 5-4 midway through the third quarter. Trailing 7-5 entering the fourth quarter, Billy Kelly netted his first goal of the season, finishing a feed from Sean Dacey with 8:34 to draw the hosts within one for the third time in the second half. Michael Woglom (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) fired from the top to notch his first goal of the season and push the lead back to two with 4:31 to play. John Bohlinger found Kelly 1:29 later to once again make it a one-goal contest before he wrapped around the left side of the cage and snuck a ball in between the near pipe and the McDaniel keeper to knot the score with 16.5 seconds left. The teams each had opportunities in the first two four-minute overtimes but couldn't find the back of the net. Before a minute had elapsed in the third extra session, Luke Dick passed to Paul Tunick on the upper-left side of the formation and Tunick whistled home the game winner. DJ Rickels (Forest Hill, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) got McDaniel on the board first, scoring with just 41 ticks left in the first quarter. Andrew Mummert (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) found Yancheski 1:14 into the second quarter to double the advantage before making it back-to-back man-up tallies, scoring off a JS Duke (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) with 9:30 to play in the period. Skippy Clary (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) stretched the advantage to 4-0, finishing a solo run with 7:03 to play before Pat Bivons (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) tallied his first collegiate goal with 5:15 on the clock off a Ryan Weiss (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) assist. Back-to-back unassisted tallies from Marson two minutes apart closed the deficit to 5-2 at the break before the sophomore made it three straight, scoring three minutes into the second half. Bohlinger hit Chip Pittard 3:06 later in a man-up situation to make it a one-goal game before Yancheski completed his hat trick off a Duke assist with 7:08 showing. Harry Snyder wasted no time, finishing a Marson assist off the ensuing faceoff to make it 6-5 just 20 seconds later. Rickels hit the back of the net off a Clary feed in the final minute of the period before the Eagles' late-game rally. Nelson Hannahs (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) added six ground balls while Nick Sicuranza (Sevens Valley, Pa./Dallastown) had three caused turnovers. McDaniel finished with a slim 30-29 advantage in shots while Mary Washington had a slim edge in ground balls, 32-31. The Green Terror returns to action at No. 1 Salisbury on Wednesday.
