| SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior co-captain and tournament MVP Marco Le Gette
(Severna Park, MD) scored four goals with two assists to lead top-seeded
Western New England College to a 12-7 victory over second-seeded Babson
College in the championship game of the 2004 ECAC Division III New
England Tournament. Le Gette finished his career with 140 points (108
goals, 32 assists).
Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) added three goals and three assists while junior CJ Annunciata (Waltham, MA) contributed a goal and four assists as the Golden Bears captured the program's first ever post-season championship. Also scoring goals were sophomore Brett Searing (Skaneateles, NY) and freshman Devin Howton (Olney, MD). Freshman goalie Matt Pendelbury (North Hunterdon, NJ) compiled 12 saves. Babson (9-8) took a 2-0 lead 5:05 into the game on goals by senior Ed Barbeau (Longmeadow, MA) and freshman Patrick Mulvihill (Worcester, MA). The Beavers led 3-2 after the first period before the Golden Bears scored six times in the second quarter to take an 8-4 lead at half-time. Freshman Nick Fessenden (Newton, MA) led Babson with two goals while senior Tim Armenta (Kennebunk, ME) and junior Jared Connell (Yarmouth, ME) each added a goal and assist. Senior Brian Collins (Needham, MA) had the other goal. Junior goalie Dave Frascogna (Orchard Park, NY) finished with 11 saves. WNEC (14-7) also established a school record for wins in a season, breaking the old mark of 13 set in 1996. The Golden Bears also won all three meetings with Babson this season. |
