| SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ~V Junior Joe Cassini (Barre, VT) led 10 players in the scoring column with three goals and sophomore Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) added a goal and three assists to lead Western New England College to a 12-7 victory over the University of Massachusetts-Boston in a semifinal round game of the 2005 ECAC Division III Championship. The Golden Bears (13-6) led 5-0 after the opening period and 6-1 at half-time in winning for the fifth time in their last six outings. Sophomore Brian Praetorius (Saugerties, NY) contributed two goals while freshman Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) has a goal and two assists. Freshman Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA) notched a pair of assists. Freshman goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) allowed only three goals while making 12 saves. UMass Boston received four goals from sophomore Ryan O'Rourke (Milton, MA) and two assists from junior Patrick Donlan (Norwell, MA). Sophomore Nick Eaton (Rowley, MA) had an outstanding game in the net stopping 26 shots. The Beacons finish their season with an 11-7 record. Western New England College will host either Eastern Connecticut or Plymouth State in the championship game at 1:00 p.m. Sunday (May 15) at Golden Bear Stadium. |
