No. 10 Western New England College downs Roger Williams in home opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Ė Sophomore Colin Houlihan (Yorktown Heights, NY) had two goals and an assist, and freshman goalie Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) made 10 saves as the Western New England College menís lacrosse team posted an 8-2 victory over Roger Williams in its home opener Wednesday (April 1).

The Golden Bears, ranked 10th nationally, raised their record to 5-1 with their fifth consecutive win and are now 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Junior Tim Santye (Skillman, NJ) and freshman Nick Jez (Somers, CT) each contributed a pair of goals while seniors Chuck Cartelli (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) had the other scores.

Western New England College led 3-0 after the opening period and held a 5-0 advantage at halftime after Houlian scored with 1.7 seconds before the break.

Santye gave the hosts a 6-0 cushion with a man-up goal at the 5:02 mark of the third period.

Roger Williams got on the board 20 seconds later when freshman Justin Leddy (Manasquan, NJ) hit the back of the net.

The Hawks tallied the final score on a man-up goal by sophomore Drew Smith (Blue Point, NY) with 4:57 left in the game.

Sophomore goalie Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, NY) finished with 13 saves in a fine performance.

Roger Williams now has a 5-3 record, including a 1-2 mark in the conference.
