Wheaton vs. Lasell

The Game Story:
NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team captured its first Pilgrim League win of the season with a convincing 18-2 victory over Lasell College Saturday afternoon at Elms field. The win marks the first conference game for the Lyons and improves their overall record to 2-5 on the year. The Lasers fall to 1-1 in Pilgrim League play and now stand at 3-4 overall. Wheaton is now 2-0 at home this season and 0-5 on the road.

The Lyons jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back, as Wheaton took a 6-0 lead after the first period. After scoring two goals early in the period, the Lyons rattled off four goals in the final 4:30. Junior Zak Putnam (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth) had the final two goals of the stanza in addition to the first tally of the second quarter. The Lyons outscored Lasell, 4-0 in the second period to take a commanding 10-0 advantage into the intermission. Junior Paul Leonard (East Grand Rapids, MI/East Grand Rapids) and freshman Ellis Reavey (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) each scored two first-half goals.

Wheaton's defense, anchored by junior Dusko Joldzic (Lincoln Park, NJ/Montclair-Kimberly), sophomore Josh Fredrickson (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) and freshman Kris Koerber (Brunswick, ME/Brunswick), helped keep the Laser attack at bay for most of the game. Lasell was unable to get on the scoreboard until early in the fourth period, with the score already 16-0. The Lasers got two goals early in the fourth period from freshman Jeremy Davis (Zionsville, PA/Emmaus).

Reavey paced the Lyons with four goals, while Putnam added three goals and two assists. Leonard had two goals and two assists, while senior Zach Hurd (Bath, ME/Hyde School) and freshman Adam Cohen (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier) each added a pair of scores. Junior Chris Milligan (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) added three assists and a goal in the victory

Wheaton junior goalie Bryant Denny (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) posted three scoreless periods with seven saves, while senior Mac Jackson (Brooklin, ME/George Stevens) stopped seven shots in the fourth. Lasell's Colby Gorniewicz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) made 15 saves.

The Lyons will look to improve their home record to a perfect 3-0 this Tuesday afternoon, as the Blue and White turn their attention to Salve Regina for a non-league contest at 4:00 p.m.
