The Game Story:
WHITTIER, Calif. – Ithaca College had 10 assists on its 11 goals and the Whittier College men’s lacrosse team was held to a season-low three goals as the Bombers handed the Poets their third straight loss on Monday afternoon.

Whittier (3-3) cut Ithaca’s lead to 3-2 at the 10:25 mark of the second quarter but that proved to be as close as the Poets would get. The Bombers scored the game’s next seven goals over a three quarter stretch for the eight-goal win.

Ithaca scored first at 9:49 of the first quarter but Christian Wright answered for the Poets on a feed from Sam Russell nearly three minutes later. IC scored consecutive goals at 5:23 and 4:00 of the first to lead 3-1 after one.

The defenses of both teams held each other in check during the second quarter. Whittier failed on its lone extra-man opportunity of the second frame but cashed in on an even strength goal within the first five minutes of the quarter.

The Bombers needed only two minutes to add to its lead as Mike Lohan scored his only goal of the game. Lohan finished with a game-high five points on four assists and one goal.

Whittier won a tightly contested battle at the ‘X’ with a 10-of-18 advantage on the faceoffs. The Bombers corralled 32 groundballs to Whittier’s 26 and out shot the purple and gold 36-21.

Neither team made good on their two man-up chances.

Robert Bazlen made eight saves for Whittier while Ithaca’s David Gal turned away 11 WC attempts.
